MakerPickup lets small makers take orders for collection in person. To do that we need a little information about the people ordering and the people selling, and not much else. This page says exactly what we hold, why, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it.
What we collect when you order
- Your name and email address. Needed to attach an order to a person and to send the confirmation and receipt.
- Your phone number, only if you ask to be texted. See below.
- What you ordered, which pickup place and time you chose, and anything you typed or uploaded for a personalised item — a name to engrave, a logo to print.
- Your billing address, collected by Stripe on the payment screen and used to check the card.
- Whether you agreed to marketing, and by which channel, so that the answer can be honoured and shown to be honoured.
We never see your card. Payment happens on Stripe’s own page. Card numbers, expiry dates and security codes go to Stripe and never touch our systems.
What we collect if you sell
A maker gives us an email address and password to sign in with, their shop name and description, their pickup places — which for a porch pickup is a home address — and their products and photos. Payouts run through Stripe, so bank details are given to Stripe rather than to us. We hold the Stripe account identifier, not the account.
Your phone number
A phone number is only collected when you tick the box asking to be texted about an order, and it’s used to send you those messages and nothing else. We do not sell or rent mobile information, and no mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. It goes to the maker you bought from, so they can reach you about your order, and to the messaging provider that delivers the text for us. Reply STOP to any message to stop them. How our text messages work.
What a maker can see
A maker sees the orders placed with them: name, email, phone if you gave one, what you ordered, your pickup choice, and anything you typed for a personalised item. They can see your history with their shop. They cannot see anything about your orders from any other maker — customers are held per shop, not pooled across the platform.
Who else sees it
We use these companies to run the service, and no others touch your information:
- Stripe — payments and payouts, and the checkout page itself.
- Mailgun — sends our emails.
- Twilio — sends our text messages.
- Vercel — hosts the site and stores uploaded photos.
- Neon — hosts the database.
- Google and Meta — measure how well our advertising works, and only on our own marketing pages and the seller dashboard. See the next section.
Each of them handles this information only to do that job for us. Beyond them, we share information only where the law requires it, or where it is genuinely necessary to investigate fraud or a chargeback.
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we never have.
Analytics and advertising
We advertise MakerPickup on Google and Facebook/Instagram to reach makers who’d find it useful. To know which of those ads actually work, we use Google Analytics and the Meta pixel on our own pages — this marketing site and the seller dashboard. When an ad sends someone to us, we note the click and, if that person goes on to set up a shop, we tell Google and Meta that the ad led to a sign-up. That measurement shares limited information — a hashed email, and identifiers from the ad click — with Google and Meta, which some laws treat as “sharing” for advertising.
We never put this on a maker’s storefront. Your shoppers are the maker’s customers, not our advertising audience, so no MakerPickup analytics or ad pixel runs on a storefront page.
You can turn all of this off for your browser at any time on Your privacy choices, and if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal we honour it automatically. We don’t build profiles to sell, and we don’t pass anything to data brokers.
Cookies and browser storage
- A sign-in cookie for makers, so a shop owner stays signed in. It holds a random token, nothing about them.
- A small preference cookie remembering whether a maker’s sidebar is collapsed.
- Your cart is kept in your own browser’s storage, not on our servers, until you check out.
- On our marketing and dashboard pages only, Google Analytics and Meta cookies (such as
_gaand_fbp) and a small first-party cookie of ours that remembers which ad, if any, brought you here. These don’t run on storefronts, and Your privacy choices switches them off.
How long we keep it
Order records — what was bought, from whom, for how much — are kept as business and tax records. Uploaded artwork for a personalised item is kept while the order needs it. A maker's product photos stay in their own image library so they can reuse them on later listings, so deleting a product no longer deletes its photographs — a maker removes a photo for good from that library, and we delete the file when they do. The record of what someone bought stays, because a receipt has to remain true. Sign-in sessions expire, and signing out deletes the session immediately.
Your choices
- Texts: reply STOP to any message. That takes effect immediately and for good.
- Marketing email: use the unsubscribe link, or ask us. Order emails aren’t marketing and can’t be switched off — they carry your order number and where to collect.
- Analytics and advertising: turn them off for your browser on Your privacy choices. A Global Privacy Control signal is honoured automatically.
- See, correct or delete what we hold: email hello@makerpickup.com and we’ll do it. We may keep what we’re legally required to keep — a completed sale, mainly — and we’ll tell you if that applies.
You never have to pay, and nothing about your service changes, because you exercised any of these.
Children
MakerPickup isn’t for children. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and if we learn we have, we delete it.
Where it’s processed
We’re in the United States and so is everything above. If you order from elsewhere, your information is processed in the US.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, and so are sign-in tokens — a copy of our database wouldn’t hand anyone a working session. Card data is never in our systems to protect. No system is perfect, and if something happens that affects you, we’ll tell you rather than wait to be asked.
Changes
When this changes, the date at the top changes and the new version appears here. If a change materially affects how we use information we already hold, we’ll email the people it affects.
